WRA FRIENDSHIP CONCERT iN CARDONA

A first highlight performance for the travelers from Western Reserve Academy from Hudson, Ohio (USA) on their 2018 iNCANTATO MUSICA performance tour takes place on Sunday, March 11 at 6 pm at the Gothic Church Iglesia de San Miguel iN Cardona – hosted by the local choir Coral Cardonina. Director Ovidi Cobacho Closa and his singers are looking forward to welcoming the WRA musicians under the leadership of Margaret Karam.
“Coral Cardonia started 60 years ago and we are happy to offer Western Reserve Academy an exclusive performance as part of our anniversary celebration event”, explains Mr. Cobacho Closa. The singers of Coral Cardonia will join their American guests for two songs: Mozart’s ‘Ave Verum Corpus’ (part of the WRA tour repertoire) and ‘Gaudeamus iguitur’, a favorite local hymn arranged by J. Casulleras. ‘Gaudemus’ is often sung at graduation ceremonies.

SAN MIGUEL DE CARDONA

The Church of San Miguel de Cardona is a remarkable Gothic building located in Cardona’s historic town center. The church has its origin in the Romanesque period, specifically in the eleventh century. The structure was rebuilt in the course of the fourteenth century, raising a new construction in Gothic style, single nave and side chapels between the buttresses. This new construction was completed and consecrated in 1397. Later, in the sixteenth century, an octagonal-shaped crypt was added, where the relics of the martyred saints Celdonio and Ermenter were venerated.
